Material Matters

In this series materials are used to push the felt and learned physical experiences of bodies in sport. Swimming, running and climbing which all require special skill acquisition and practice impact the body. Often seen as good, pushing it towards a fit and healthy lifestyle, these physical activities can also be negative, wearing on the body and putting it at risk of injury.

The three sculptures look at different aspects of sport through the eye of an athlete who contends with the positive and negative outcomes of perseverance and practice.
